Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

Keep distance from misdeeds. Be away from immoral acts.


75. noyya uRaYel - Don’t speak harshly


Do not speak in commanding tone. Be gentle while you talk.


76. Noykku idam koDel - Don’t let fear in


Do not let panic take over you. Be brave and face it.


77. pazhippana pagaRel - Don’t speak useless words


If you speak useless words you will be ridiculed.


78. paambodu pazhaGel - Don’t befriend opportunists


Opportunists are like snakes. They care only about themselves. Keep away from those kind.


79. pizhaipada solLel - Be clear and concise


Express yourself with clarity and compose. Don’t demean yourself.


80. peedu pera nil - Be a person of admiration 


Present yourself laudably on a dais. Be a man praised by others.
