When comparing a king and a scholar, the scholar is always the better choice. While a king is respected only within his kingdom, a scholar commands respect wherever he goes.

A poisonous snake will live in hiding, while a poison-less water snake will roam freely without fear. People with poison in their hearts will conceal it and speak, while the innocent will be outspoken.

On the other hand, a thug would prefer to associate with other thugs, much like a crow finds solace in a graveyard.
