Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

Make a career out of agriculture.

Take important life decisions after consulting elders. Do not decide on your own.


84. Pedhaimai agatru - Educate yourself


Gain knowledge through education. Do not be an illiterate.


85. payyaLodu iNanGel - Don’t be friends with fools


Avoid the company of idiots. Make friendship with sensible persons.


86. poruLthanai Potri vaazh - Save money


Do not spend lavishly the money you earn. Learn to save it.


87. Porthozhil puriYel - Don’t be a henchman


Do not make a career out of violence. 


88. manam thadumaaRel - Have a steady mind


Keep your mind clear. Do not get confused.


89. maatraanukku idam koDel - Don’t allow others to take decisions on your behalf


Take decisions yourself. Do not let others dominate your decisions.


90. migaipada solLel - Don’t proclaim your acts


Do not trumpet about your efforts. Let them speak for themselves.
