Aathisoodi - 13th Century Didactic Poetry - Avvayar - 51 to 60


Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

51. Seridam aRindhu Ser - Be aware of the echelon of your friend


Know beforehand the social status of the person you are befriending with. It’s tough to maintain friendship with influential people.


52. saiyena thiRiYel - Don’t feel inferior


Do not lower your morale. Always be confident and act in that way.


53. soRSorvu paDel - Speak clearly


Do not talk foolishly. Express yourself with confidence and clarity.


54. Sombi thiRiYel - Don’t be lazy


Always have something to work on. Keep yourself busy.


55. thakkavan ena thiRi - Prove yourself as useful


Show the world you are capable of handling anything handed over to you. Show you are shrewd.


56. dhaanamadhu virumbu - Be willing to donate


Do not be a miser. Always be ready to help the poor.


57. thirumaalukku adimai sei - Be obedient to King


Follow King’s order diligently. Never go against it.


58. theevinai agatRu - Desist your bad deeds


Try to get rid of your bad karma by any means. Try to be a good samaritan. 


59. thunbhathiRkku idam koDel - Don’t be poor


Do not let yourself to be poor. Grow up your skills and overcome the poverty.


60. thookki vinai sei - Compare your previous works and make it easy


Before starting a task, always think of the previous time you did that and try to make it more simple and easy to handle. Use your experience to finish the job more easily.
