Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

Do not do anything expecting something in return. Be selfless while helping others.


42. Kodhaatu ozhi - Be straightforward


Do not be hideous. Always be candid.


43. kavvai agatRu - Give up jealousy


Do not get jealous with anybody. Be open minded.


44. sakkara neRi nil - Don’t go against fate


Always follow the nature’s rule. Do not override it.


45. saandRor inathiru - Be with wise men


Associate yourself with prudent people. Do not mingle with ignorants.


46. sithiram PeSel - Don’t speak deceitfully


Do not hoodwink others. Be outspoken and open.


47. seermai maRavel - Don’t forget your roots


Do not forget your lineage. Your ancestry is the fundamental part of your life.


48. suLikka solLel - Don’t speak harsh


Do not use strong words and hurt others feelings. Converse gently.


49. soodhu virumBel - Don’t gamble


Gambling is a sin. It will ruin your life.


50. seivana thirundha sei - Do perfectly


Anything you do, give it cent percent. Do not treat it half heartedly.
