Aathisoodi - 13th Century Didactic Poetry - Avvayar - 21 to 30


Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

Never go against nature. Do not do anything freakish.

Do not create a problem of your own and suffer. Be away from bother.

Cotton beds are airy and comfy, use them for sleeping. They balance the temperature of our body.


27. vanjagam PeSel - Don’t speak deceptively


Be outspoken. Do not hide a thought in and speak cheerfully out.


28. azhagaladhana seYYel - Don’t do anything not pretty


Do everything graciously and beautifully. Don’t do anything for the sake of doing it.

Young age is the right time for learning new skills. Those will stay with you for life.
