Aathisoodi - 13th Century Didactic Poetry - Avvayar - 11 to 20

Aathisoodi is a didactic poetry book written by Avvayar, a lady poet, in 13th Century AD in Tamil language. It consists of 108 small verses which summarises the life lessons in maximum of 4 words per verse.

Never stop your learning curve. Remember time and again the learnings of your life.

12. auviyam PeSel - Don’t gossip

Do not talk about a person behind his back. That will spoil your name.

13. ahkkam suruKel - Don’t shrink your mind

Have a broader mind to learn new things. Do not allow it to contract .

14. kaNdoNRu solLel - Don’t speculate

Do not speak out based on what you saw. Enquire thoroughly and arrive at a conclusion.

15. ngaPol vaLai - Hold it like a storage vessel

Store and cherish whatever you learnt in your mind.

16. sani Neeraadu - Bathe in cold water

Always bathe in chill water (because Tamil land weather is warm throughout the year)

17. gyayam pada uRai - Speak only about good deeds

Do not talk silly or rubbish. Always think and discuss superlative things.

18. idampada veedu eDel - Don’t select a dwelling which does not suit you

Reside in a place which gives you comfort and peace.

19. iNakkamarindhu iNangu - Be friends only with friends

Be friendly to those who are friendly with you. Do not fraternise with malicious people.

20. thandhai thaai PeN - Don’t forget to take care of your parents

Always revere your parents and treat them well.
